SSH (Secure Shell) is a secure protocol used to remotely connect to a Linux server or other Unix-like systems. With SSH, you can securely log in to your server, transfer files, and execute commands from a remote location.

In case you have a shared hosting account with us, kindly contact our Support to open SSH access for your cPanel account.

In this article, we will guide you through the process of connecting to a Linux server using SSH on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Step 1: Open your terminal
To start the SSH connection, open your terminal or command prompt. On Windows, you can use the built-in Command Prompt or Windows PowerShell. On macOS, you can use the built-in Terminal app. On Linux, you can use the default terminal.

Step 2:
Enter the SSH command To connect to your Linux server, you will need to enter the SSH command followed by the server's IP address and the username you want to connect as. Here's an example command:

ssh username@server_ip_address

For example, if your username is "john" and your server's IP address is "192.168.1.100", the SSH command would be:

ssh john@192.168.1.100 -p 22

Note: We're using custom SSH port, which will be provided to you by our Support team

Step 3:
Enter your password (if applicable) If this is your first time connecting to the server, you will be prompted to enter your password. If you've already connected to the server before, you may be prompted to enter your SSH key passphrase. Enter the password or passphrase and press Enter.

Step 4:
Confirm the connection Once you've entered your password, you should see a message indicating that you've successfully connected to the server. You can now run commands on the server, transfer files, and perform other tasks.

Step 5:
Disconnect from the server To disconnect from the server, simply type "exit" and press Enter. This will end the SSH session and return you to your local terminal.

Conclusion
Connecting to a Linux server using SSH is a simple process. By following the steps outlined in this article, you can easily establish a secure connection to your account and begin managing your files and applications remotely. If you need to perform more advanced tasks, there are many resources available online to help you learn how to use SSH more effectively.
